Abdel empowers Palestinian children with a new form of non-violent resistance by providing alternative activities for creative expression and positive change, as well as therapeurtic outlets for anger. Working with children who are directly affected by a violent and politically-charged atmosphere, Abdel creates outlets for youth to transform their fear, anger, and inclination towards resistance into positive and creative expression. These methods include sports, art, theatre, dance, film, writing, photography, language, health awareness, and education. The performing arts segment of the program has allowed youth to gain exposure to international cultures and peoples through travel to other countries and frequent international visitors. Abdel’s programs work to prevent youth from becoming aggressive demonstrators and perpetuators of violence, but rather to spread their voice through artistic and peaceful expression.
